| In 1998, Metallica released Garage, Inc., a 2-disc album consisting of a collection of cover songs they had toyed around with over the past ten or so years. The outer cover showed four blue collared, baseball cap clad grease monkeys smeared with dirt and oil, smoking cigarettes and drinking beer. Metallica's fans got a bit of a tongue-in-cheek surprise, however, when they opened the CD to see the boys, James Hetfield, Jason Newsted, Kirk Hammett, and Lars Ulrich, sporting gaudy, white, Vegas style lounge suits in front of a flashy, glittery curtain.
