| In the year 2000, Metallica became a tad miffed to say the least when they found out that bootleg copies of "I Disappear," a song that they were still in the process of recording for the Mission: Impossible 2 soundtrack, were circulating on the radio and being traded on the highly popular MP3 downloading site, Napster. Lawsuits were filed, not only by Metallica, but by numerous recording artists and the RIAA, claiming that Napster was taking the discretion away from the artists with regard to how their music was being distributed. A backlash beyond even Metallica's wildest imagination ensued, and Metallica, especially drummer Lars Ulrich, became a scapegoat for millions of American teenagers. Out of this backlash emerged satire, and creative mind Bob Cesca created several wildly popular cartoons entitled "Napster Bad" depicting Lars Ulrich as the short statured, f-word slinging, outspoken Metallica spokesperson and James Hetfield as his half-witted, Lurch-like, pyrophobic sidekick.. (By the way, I took these pictures off the Camp Chaos Website without permission, but I'm sure Bob won't mind. OK, see, that was a bad joke, but do yourself a favor and watch the insanely funny Napster Bad at www.campchaos.com.) Caution: like Metallica themselves, these cartoons contain strong language and are not for the faint of heart! |
