Rules number 1, 2, and 3 in the "Being a Public Figure Handbook" are have a sense of humor. Many people accuse Metallica of taking themselves way too seriously, but I disagree with that assumption, because I don't think a band such as Metallica could remain intact all these years if they didn't take things in stride. That said, there are a great many creative people out there who have a lot to say about Metallica, and not all of what they have to say is 100% complementary, which only leaves one question: is it possible to appreciate satirical depictions of Metallica and still be a loyal fan? One might feel a little guilty about enjoying cartoons that lambaste Metallica, but, as one person who wrote me put quite crudely: "When you are the sh-t, you take a lot of sh-t." So lighten up and enjoy these tongue-in-cheek portrayals (even if it is with a guilty conscience), because I'm sure even James, Lars, Kirk, and Rob have to laugh at themselves once in a while.
